PC Industry Market State

Personal computer makers in the first quarter had their first year-on-year decline in product shipments since the recession ended about 18 months ago. Low prices for comsumer PCs, which had long stimulated growth, no longer attracted buyers. With the launch of the iPad 2 in February, more consumers either switched to buying an alternative device, or simply held back from buying PCs.

While it’s tempting to blame the decline completely on the growth  of media tablets, other factors, including extended PC life-times and the lack of compelling new PC experiences, plays equally significant roles in the market’s decline.
